John O'Hara's version gets my vote. It's warm and loose with shades of rock gospel about it. Melody Smith takes it too fast.
Melody Smith by a long way! Vocals are lovely.
Heatwave for me. Love that lazy descending wahwah guitar sound.
Played these through twice.....tough decision but I have to go with Heatwave. It's punchy with a little a-tti-tude.
Heatwave for me too, sounds crispier and just right.
From the comments on the youtube channel from Heatwave guitarist Terry Shea....
Re Melody Smith version: "The backing track was performed by the original recording artist 'the Heatwave' who were never paid for doing it. It's a poor version of the original"
Re John O'Hara version: "Again the backing track was performed by the original recording group 'the Heatwave' I was one of the guitarists"
