I have made a mix of 60s run of the mill pop stars doing a funky tune or two. I did not find an area for mixes here, so have posted here instead and thought it would be a good chance to have a discussion hopefully with lots of people suggesting tunes I have missed? It is called Brown Paper Funk, the inference being that you might be ashamed to have one of these records under your arm (I am way beyond that personally).

Anyway it is on Mixcloud (http://www.mixcloud.com/speedlounge/brown-paper-funk-unexpected-funky-groovy-tunes-by-run-of-the-mill-60s-pop-stars/) hope you like it.

This probably wouldn't fit in the general run of funky there but might make a good intro....

Like the Anita Harris, though probably too jazzy for this mix, her version of the clapping song would fit nicely. I stopped at 3 Tom Jones tracks but could have filled up this mix with just Tom's tunes possibly Lulu too. Martin Horsfield (Rock N Roll Soul) suggested some Kenny Lynch on the face book

You could probably squeeze a little faster Popcorn on a mix like that too. Gene Pitney - The Boss's Daughter would be great. Or maybe his mad as a balloon 'Animal Crackers (in cellophane) ?

I'll stick up Youtube of them later when I'm out of the garden.

And you can easily pitch this one up a bit (as opposed to the usual Popcorn tempo pitch down!)

Moogaloo - do you know if this ever appeared on vinyl? I think I have all the 'groovy' Sammy LPs and I don't remember it being on any of them.

Blimey! I didn't know that one Lee. Gene with a sitar vibe and great strings too:cool: Cheers!

I'm feeling that a Gene Pitney Appreciation article is waiting in the wings for the main website...:)

Just to say that thanks to your recommendations Elvis Presely's Spinout and Gene Pitney's She's a Heartbreaker are on heave rotation in my house hold, and Elvis went down a storm at the last RPM Funky Vintage Sounds.

There's the Johnny Harris instrumental of Lulu's "Show Me" which adds extra fuzz & hammond!
