Yay! Happy New Year to y'all. Hope you had a good New Year's Eve with family, friends, animals...whatever.

Rose early for Car Boot in Suffolk. Cash, address and a nice new shoulder bag for records which was a Xmas present. Out the door inhaling the fresh morning air.

Car started, then started feeling wrong. Heavy creaking sounds, steering wheel juddering.... ( sigh ). Got as far as the end of the street and realized an hour driving into the unknown wilds of Suffolk on country roads on a New Years Day might be a bad idea with a car that's clearly in need of a service and a few bangs with a monkey wrench.

Sigh.

Small silver lining in that I managed to finish off a new page for the main website this morning. Not attached to the main menu yet but you should be able to see it here:

Mercury Super Stereo Sound (http://www.forumusic.co.uk/mercury_super_stereo.html)

Here's hoping I can get locked into a groove and have a proper bunch of articles completed for a January update.

Happy New Year guys, taking it easy listening to Razor Jack streaming live on RTR from Australia.
Ian, that page looks amazing. I have to confess I haven't knowingly heard any of those amazing looking lps, but I shall be keeping my eyes peeled. Do they sound as good as they look? Looking forward to some pointers on these, in the way of reviews by people who have them.
Too bad about the boot sale. I did the local chazzers yesterday, and also drew a blank. Hope this isn't the shape of things to come.

Cheers TB. They're not half as exciting as they look unfortunately. Michel Legrand and Big Jim Sullivan are about the best and they're not really essential.

We're all going to find GREAT THINGS this year!!!!

They're the only two I own, the Michel Legrand is a bit of an acquired taste, as it depends on how much you like easy/scat vocals, if your fan of the Jumping jauques you'll dig it.

Ive had a couple of others and they've been rubbish, was tempted to keep them for the covers but I returned them to the wilds.

Full service, callipers, alignment, new discs, pads etc = hundreds and hundreds. Cars eh? Bah.

Safe now though. Yay.

Thanks for the kind words Carlos and a belated Happy New Year to you. Here's hoping your Pieces Of Eight box set sounded good on Xmas day.

If only I had a wall big enough, though if I ask gf nicely there's a large space at the top of the stairs.

Car working. Woohoo. Bag packed. Woohoo x 2. Off to find things in deepest Suffolk.

Hopefully.

Anyone checked out the guy who sells records in Gosfield near Braintree? Might nip over for a quick flick this afternoon

Just got back from Gosfield. The place is called Mr Bojangles, and is in Gosfield Shopping Village! Basically a few old farm outbuildings split up into units. Mr Bojangles is pretty rammed out with vinyl and cds. 45s seem to be book price, although there's quite a lot of cheap (£1 albums, boxes of unsorted 45s) stuff tucked away on the floor. I came away with a real nice copy of BeeGees 1st for a fiver, and an Immediate comp on Sequel, mainly to get The Excelsior Spring on vinyl. Worth popping in if you are passing. Weekends only.

Made it to the boot in Suffolk. Beautiful drive. Crisp sunny morning. Finds?

D-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-e!!!

Six for a quid from one seller. Two flexis for 10p from another.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/car_boot_7_1_2013_zpse72d68f1.jpg

Rupert Holmes - Blackjack / Crowd Pleaser ....Neither side good. Shouldv'e guessed really as it never made its way onto 4DW's (from Waxidermy) amazing gambling records mix.
Corniche - Theme from 'Chips' / California Hustle ....Decent boogie disco with strings obviously. (I couldn't for the life of me remember the tune).
Eartha Kitt - If I Need Ya, Then I Love Ya, If I Need Ya, I Want'cha Around - Didn't know this at all either. Fun! (Just An Old Fashioned Girl rather predictably on the B)
Slade and David Cassidy talk to Melanie magazine: The things they did to sell records eh? They say thank you. One by one. Hopeful of spoken word fun but none to be had.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/car_boot_7_1_2013_2_zpsa9cdaeb2.jpg

Donna Douglas - Java Jones / Blue Star ...terrible. Gotta go back to one of Lady J's old Swap Cds to find out which cracking version of this I need.
Tungi A tp Z - Reggae Records / Emajo ....where's that vomit emoticon? Emajo is OK in an uptempo kinda way. Actually. No. It's awful.
Randy Newman - Short People / Baltimore .... curoius to see how they'd edited Baltimore from the lp version (which I love). They just faded it out early. :p

Favourite find of the morning! I don't collect soldiers but this was exactly the series of 1/32 scale soldiers I used to buy back in the 70s.
I now have British Paratroopers guarding the records (29 of 'em) and two of them are squatted over radios so can get back up help if needed.
Ace.

Sometimes you have to love the simple things.
Fresh air. Bit of exercise. Nice car ride down Suffolk backroads, box of British Paratroopers. That kind of thing.

My first outing of the year bagged me these two -

http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae54/mr_sayers/Tynemouth2013_zpsab611809.jpg

Klaus Wunderlich - Live (Wersi)
Never seen this one before and the Vulture in me made me get it as he does a version of 'Shaft' on it, not a good version at that, it's that bad I think I'll keep it for novelty value for the time being...

Various - Hammond organs today (Ad Rhythm)
Out of the same box as the Klaus and I was on the all or nothing tip. I'd never seen this AD rhythm before, my hopes were all pinned on a self penned John Dales track (Meditations), unfortunately it's p*ss poor so back in to the wilds it will go!:(

A stinker indeed....but me being a sad series collector I file all the Ad-Rhythm's I find and have started a Wants List. I think I've got all the best ones anyway but haven't acquired a critical mass yet to start thinking about filling gaps.

I think Julian is keepin' his eyes peeled on collections that come into Second Scene to source the really dreadful ones I don't have.

I see someone on VG+ found a cheap Baldwin Soul in Fopps over Xmas (Harvey Mettle #32) (http://www.verygoodplus.co.uk/showthread.php/36362-January-Finds-2013?p=506758#post506758). Mad record!

I know Hal Vincent did Baldwin Bonanza but that was earlier than Baldwin Soul and not very good at all. I'll check my Ad-Rhythm shelf when I get home tonight though.

Dropped off some bags of clothes to Pact charity shop in Anglia Square this morning and got to rifle through a few piles of lps out the back. Picked up these. No great shakes but some well-known ones I've never actually heard. :o

Pleased to get a Maxwell Plumm at last if only for the one track as featured on Working Man's Soul. Love the Bowie (had it before), don't know the Billy Preston.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/pact_sat_jan_2013_1_zps8bc90671.jpg

Couldn't leave these behind and ashamed to confess I've never heard Umagumma or Electric Ladyland. :o

Carl Simmons is not very good. Bought it for one self-penned track but it isn't great. Nytro is very, very bland Disco...was hoping it might be like EWF 'I Am' which I love. Barbara Streisand has a nice version of Stoney End on it. Claus Ogerman in the production seat it had to have something worthwhile! Mr Shifter PG Tips nonsense will probably be offered to Agnes Guano over on VG+ (if it doesn't reveal any mad pyschedelic bangers).

The Ventures - Theme from shaft (UA)
Glad to pick this up cheap as I'd been after it a while. It's all about the covers of 'I'm a man' and 'Gimme some lovin' for me.

Cross country - S/T (ATCO)
Looks like a Fuz type record, unfortunatly it sounds a bit bland/middle of the road on first listen.:( I was hoping the cover of 'in the midnight hour' would have delivered!

The Knightsbridge Symphonic band - Band music (Chappell)
Always nice to pick up an interesting looking library for a quid. Has a couple of decent tracks on it - 'Rock 'N' Rhapsody' and ' Heavy band blues'.:)

Like you Ian my finds haven't been too good out in the wilds this year, still all cheap (got change from a tenner on this lot:cool:) so I can't complain. Was chuffed with the Ventures as I'd been after it for ages (Since Chris vulture played me it in 2000!), I refused to get it online!

And finding it properly like that makes it all worthwhile.
I've decided this year that if I hear something I like and there's any chance at all I could find it in the wild or at a record fair I'm definitely not doing the on-line thing. (I just nabbed a P.S 186 lp from Discogs after hearing it in IAN's VG+ Swap CD. Beautiful track called Nadneda worth having the lp for on its own! I figured there's no way on God's Earth something like that would turn up in the UK.

Went to Banham Zoo Boot:

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/banham_zoo_jan13_2013_1_zps1479b19b.jpg

Just a couple of big ones for cheap.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/banham_zoo_jan13_2013_2_zps741a66f0.jpg

Enjoying the Otis Redding now. The DubStep (?) one is dreadful but I'm determined to grab random stuff like this here and there when it's only 50p just to sample odd shi*te.

These were £2 each. Random punts.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/banham_zoo_jan13_2013_3_zps2df14cda.jpg

Fever Tree : San Francisco Girls / Come With Me (Rainsong)
San Francisco is the side for me. Slow, spaced-out intro before it speeds up into a fuzzy, psychy groover. The Come With side doesn’t do much for me.

Sam the Sham & The Pharoahs : Ju Ju Hand / Big City Lights
Not really my bag. Just sounds like standard rock n’ roll.

The Majority : Pretty Little Girl / I Don’t Wanna Be Hurt No More
Waivers somewhere between early Beatles and sunshine pop. I Don’t Wanna Be Hurt is the better side imho.

The Symbols : Again / (The Best Part of) Breaking Up
Again sounds like an early Hollies track which I really like. The Breaking Up side doesn’t do anything for me at all. Stompy pop nonsense.

These were 3 for £2 so got 6.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/banham_zoo_jan13_2013_4_zps37b88650.jpg

Lenny Welch : Goodnight My Love / Fancy Meeting You Here
Can’t pass up on a Lenny seeing as I love his ballads like I Was There and Since I Fell For You. His voice is always worth hearing. Goodnight My Love is very like Since I Fell For You and very close in sound to Little Anthony & The Imperials. Beautiful song, beautifully sung. Fancy Meeting You Here is more upbeat and has that 70s sitar sound I love on it

Carole King : Been To Canaan / Bitter With The Sweet
Lovely version of Been To Canaan, very Nyro-esque. Like Lenny, Carole’s voice, delivery and phrasing are always worth it.

Woody Herman’s Herd – Skinned / Skinned Again
Bought this for the cover art. Love that whole Ben Shahn style of graphics. Nothing Skinned Up or Down about the music ; very bleurgh.

Shelby Flint : Angel On My Shoulder / Somebody
Mint up and delighted ! Love the simple beauty of this song. Got a scratchy one from Ebay when I first heard it. This is much, much cleaner. Never played the B side and it’s also very nice but not quite as pure and perfect as Angel.

Battersea : Born and Bred / Summer Rain
Terrible desoite Ron Grainer having written both sides. One side parpy / trad the other dreadfully lame disco.

Johnny Dankwirth and Orchestra : Moanin’ / African Waltz
Very polite, almost chamber orchestra-style version of Moanin’ that kicks in the chorus but then meanders off into standard soloing. Not good. Hard to top the Mansfield version I guess. African Waltz on the B sounds like Z cars or something….

Four definite keepers out of ten so pleased with that.

And a 50p CD for the car journey home as I forgot to put the VG+ / Waxi CDs in the car.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/Pattrick_104_2007/banham_zoo_jan13_2013_5_zps875c6426.jpg

It's Morrissey's selection of tunes for an NME freebie. Dreadful songs that all either sound very similar to Smiths songs or have vocalists that sound slightly camp. Gotta be honest and say there wasn't one song that grabbed / intrigued or interested me. :(

A nice way to kick off the year so I won't hear a bad word said about the Dargaville Hospice Shop (turn left, then left again at the black stump).
Also nabbed some rather cool, early doors lounge style 78s in good nick.

Blimey that intro alone... Had to laugh at the comment below it on the YouTube clip. 38 years!

Found it! After 38 years I finally found it! Every time I searched for hallowed be thy name I came up with the likes of Iron Maiden and Cradle of Filth. Geez, I should have tried the Lord's Prayer from the very beginning.

And Lounge? Now ya tawlkin'!
Some of the Waxidermy Cds from a few years ago have some extraordinary, waivering, slightly out-of-tune, desperately aspirational Lounge tracks on them from vanity pressings. I love 'em. If I ever get around to compiling a CD of the best ones I'll get one to you.

I've had a few Kottke lps over the years and found them all a bit hard work. My favourite track by him I've never had on lp. My brother put it on a compilation CD years ago. You probably won't like it much but I love the lyrics and he does have a pretty good voice.

Once again I leave this site having heard something different, and enjoyed it.:D
Ace. :) That 'I stood out like a taxidermist elk upon a hill' line sticks in the mind. Have no idea what the rest of the lp is like.

Oooo, yes please.
Checking my hard drive, I'm actually halfway there. Will let you know when it's done.

Saw that but no worries. It was a fiver from Discogs for a Mint one so I haven't broken the bank and there's plenty more there for anyone else who wants to dip their toes ..... :)

Found myself twiddling my thumbs in Sawbridgeworth this morning. Popped into a charity shop while I was waiting, emerged with a clean as you like 45 of Whats New Pussycat by Mr Jones and a 45 of Lalo Schifrin The Jaws Theme, which is pretty good. More than pleasantly surprised to find the b side is- in the words of Nina Simone- funkier than a mosquitoes tweeter!

Slim pickings from my local market, I went both Saturday and Sunday and this is all I managed to come up with -

Bright winter - A band for all seasons (Myrrh)
I nearly always punt on Xian LP's when they're a pound, unfortunately this ones utter crap!:(

The Staple Singers - Let's do it again (Curtom)
Always nice to pick up a Blaxploitation LP you've been missing for cheap.:) Couple of decent funky instrumentals thanks to Mr Mayfield.

45

The Everly Brothers - Man with money (Warners)

Well done on getting out though Craig! Snow stopped everything here the weekend before last and the sudden melt on Saturday night caused odd rivers to be following everywhere on Sunday morning. I didn't want to risk getting stuck or heading towards roads that were cut off.

February's gonna be awesome for boots though! I can feel it!:D:p

We had hardly any snow Ian mate, was bloody freezing though with not a lot of stall owners turning up.
