And if you do warm to the madness of it's mid-tempo howling rest assured it's easy, cheap and plentiful.

Not like the Sam Fletcher, unless you're perfectly happy with a very good-sounding repress.

I've always loved the original version of Steely Dan - Caves Of Altamira.

Putting lps back on to shelves after a house move, I re-found this gospel-tinged version, stuck it on the stereo and have been blasting it all afternoon.

I think I like it better than the original. The stodgy beat and slightly weedy DX7-ish synth sounds kinda add to it's appeal.

I'm amazed nobody has jumped on this! Jesus, how have I never heard this? Obviously a fan of the Sam Fletcher 45, which will always remind me of Towny, but it's lovely to hear this too, and equally to find it doesn't cost two weeks rent! Loving it lyrically too, kinda catching my mood right now, which is always a great way to hear something for the first time and 'get it' instantly... thanks for sharing, Ian, I'm looking forward to grabbing this very muchly!...

I first heard this 1972 soul tune (very belatedly) on the Robbie Vincent radio show in the mid-80s. I still love it.

I heard this one on a Towny CD and was immediately struck by it's similarity to the above, despite being sunshine pop released five years earlier. Brilliant also I think.

This thread has been running for quite a while over on the Essential Modern Soul thread and has a lot of soul copycats.

Great original verses great clone. (http://www.essentialmodernsoul.co.nr/)

I can't link directly to it for some reason but it's in the forum called revival and about five posts down in capital letters.
