I had a surprise day off work today and decided to have a Shoegaze day. The Pale Saints In Ribbons LP was perfect.

I can't help feeling this was a much-maligned genre, even though it wasn't really a genre at all.

Labelled by the NME wasn't it? Taking bands like Ride and Slowdive, lumping them together and slapping a name on created a whole bunch of soundalikes. I loved the Pale Saints and Chapterhouse but haven't spun either for years.

Not maligned. Misunderstood. I saw MBV live in their heyday and they were enormous sounding. New lp out shortly too.
