I don't know what it is with a bunch of female singers at the moment but the whole 'I'm a fey little girl with a little girl voice' style of singing really, really annoys the hell out of me.

Just saw a new Nationwide advert with one of these singers crucifying 'Stand By Me.'

Somebody please tell them to stop.

Thank you.

There was a long thread on Waxidermy about a year ago about advertiser's predilection for using songs like that. I think the dreaded and terminally twee Pomplamoose ( ?) unholy coupling came up too.

I'll see if I can find a link later to send you over the edge D. :)

Twee adverts were one of things I really noticed on a recent trip to the UK. Basically, what seems to have happened is that Purple Ronnie took over the advertising industry about a decade ago, and inspired by the Mad World song in Donnie Darko and the 'handwritten' product description found in Lush soap shops, has given capitalism a cuddly, anodyne, infantile style.

There's an indie show I listen to on Spanish radio when I go to work, although I usualy end up turning it off after the third breathy little girl vocalist. No idea where it came from: Bjork? Charlotte
Gainsbourg? Maybe it's just easier to sing like that than belt it out.

Anyway, Eruditio, bang this up and wash the Lolita stuff out of yer lugs
