Chatting to some friends in the pub the other night we were reminiscing about how mind-blowing it was years ago when Channel 4 ran a series on East European animation. They showed shorts by Svankmajer, the Brothers Quay and so forth.

Now they're all on YouTube which is great but please post here if you know of any other good animators. I can't help thinking that, as with vinyl records, there must be some seriously good 'under the radar' animators from all over Europe.

There was a VG+ thread some years ago that was full of suggestions / recommendations about this kind of thing. I remember joining in with it for the same reason as you and I'm sure I was first to mention the Singing Ringing Tree! That Channel 4 series was incredible.

Link to VG+ thread called Strange Film (http://www.verygoodplus.co.uk/showthread.php?6954-Strange-Film&highlight=svankmajer)

I know this isn't dusty / arty / fragile / weird or whatever... but I like the way it's unexpected. There have been so many cutesy, homely, moralistic, sweet films done Pixar-style it's good to see one in that medium that's a bit nasty.
