That Mainliner track in The Wire thread blew me away and it's unusual for me to like something like that. I also really liked the Tutti Void thing. Both here.

Mainliner - M (Mellow Out)

Carter Tutti Void - V3

Then just this week, I'm teaching a module on Sound and another Science teacher included Metallica playing with a full orchestra in her scheme of work. Minus visuals, the Year 7 kids (11 year olds) had to hear as many instruments as they could in it.

Metallica - Sad But True Live with Michael Kamen / San Francisco Symphony Orchestra

I really liked that too.

I don't know nearly enough about metal / black metal / noise to really diiferentiate except hearing that Metallica is softer than Mainliner.
Any interesting noisy, heavy stuff recommendations for a complete novice?

Awww...Damn shame there's no noiseniks in the house. I was hoping to get enough dirty guitar, chugging, thrash metal distortion suggestions to whack together a car CD and unleash my inner Metal Head on the way to work. :)

I'll fall back on Plan B ........working thru the tunes on Guitar Hero... :D

Yo!
I used to be metal head in my younger days - one of my favourite bands were Brutal Truth.
I actually found this album the other week - was super happy!!
Any way my fav track from their best album

Hope this is the kind of thing you wanted or is it too heavy?
Will try and get some more of my favs up soon for you.

Cheers for that Leeroy! Great stuff. I'm wanting to feel my way to a different sort of listening. It's tricky to explain and perhaps my 'black metal / noise' heading is misleading.

I'm just looking for heavy stuff, be it synth / guitar / industrial / metal....that's outside of my usual zones of Tin Pan Alley / Beat Ballad / Popcorn / Soul / Orchestral.

I've liked odd bursts of heavy / heavier stuff over the years...well known stuff from Can / Rush / Thin Lizzy / Led Zeppelin, and I like some stuff my girlfriend likes....she sings along to Megadeth, Primus, etc.

I've also liked obscurer heavy stuff on VG+ Swap Cds. Certain selections on Rich Hero, Jahshabby and Green Man spring to mind. Also enjoyed some seriously heavy stuff on a Plantweed Cd from Waxidermy and heavy psych from Joe Shlabotnik Cds.

Happy to hear anything peeps really love that's heavy, thundering, intense rather than counterpoint, melody, verse, chorus, verse...

Deutsche Amerikan Freundenshaft - Der Mussolini used to float my boat. I'll post a YouTube of it when I can get to a proper computer.....

Cheers for posting!

I came across this as an impressionable teenager in the mid 70s. I was already a Zeppelin fan, but could not believe how "heavy" this sounded at the time. This is from 69!

Old school I know, this thread just made me think of it. Will have to dig the lp out now.

12 years further down the line, but along the same lines. I loved this at the time. Give this one a chance if you don't already know it......

Found some good 'heavier' ( for me!) bands that i liked a lot today. One called Eternal Tapestry, kind of stoner rock, the other called Spectrum Road. I think the later is an old- style Supergroup of some sort with Jack Bruce and Santana in. Kind of jazz fusion but heavy

Can't post Youtube from here but I'll put some tracks up tomorrow.
