The 'Pebbles' series were a huge influence on me in the late eighties. I was working in London at the time and bought one a day from Tower Records until there were no more to get. It was a serious habit.

Anyway, for no reason other than I have just got hold of a copy of The Cindermen 45, here are but three of my favourite 'Pebbles' tracks.

I still have the first Pebbles comp I ever purchased, probably '87/88 time - it came from Time Records in Colchester

Vol.9 features It's All Meat, The Endd, The Bad Roads, amongst others...

That whole Pebbles thing (and Moxie) was a major foundation stone in my musical education and appeared on my radar way before the UK stuff, which is weird I think

When I worked in distribution we used to deal with Suzy Shaw who used to be married to Greg Shaw who put the Pebbles compilations together, she's a fantastic person & every year without fail she would send us a big box of cookies. I've got to buy a copy of the Bomp! book, as the bits that I have read are, especially the story of Greg's pile!.

the Bomp book is great....i initially bough Pebbles because i thought the sleeves looked MOD !!
i also bought comps on Eva records like the Texas Punk ones....so damn good - i then i got into the Rubble comps on Bam Caruso and things took a turn for the weird...first few were incredible - i just wish i'd had the suss to have gone looking for the 45's at the time but i was happy enough with my comps !
